Get ready to explore one of the most beautiful places in the world as the entire country is awash in the glow of Holiday lights and ring in the New Year in style as we visit several regions in Croatia, each brimming with culinary history and lore. Get ready to experience what we are calling the Colors of Croatia Chef-Led Culinary Tour.

Captivating Croatia’s chef led tours gives the other guests the added value of a culinary masters’ perspective and input. With this tour, Chef Asha will bring her years of training in the culinary arts to “the table” and offer a unique experience that other tours can’t offer.  Guests will experience an almost all-inclusive vacation where they will get to interact, explore, cook, drink, eat and learn with Chef Asha for 8 days and even take part in several cooking classes and workshops. In addition to the above, guests will experience numerous other excursions including, truffle hunting, winery visits and tastings, and much more!

Our home base for much of this tour is the Istria area of Croatia, which is in the Northern part of Croatia and is very close to Italy. This peninsula area is known as the Tuscany of Croatia. Istria simply soothes the soul with captivating and compelling scenery which is only enhanced by the amazing food and wines of the area. Truffles, meats, cheese and wine dominate the culinary landscape. The tour will offer an intimate behind the scenes experience, featuring lavish backdrops and breathtaking landscapes that rival those anywhere else in the world. The tour focuses on delicious local foods, wines, and the amazing history and sights in and around this area.

Day 1
Arrive at the Zagreb airport and immediately get whisked off on a scenic drive to the Istrian Peninsula. Istria is one of Croatia’s most revered spots, with some would saying it is Croatia’s most amazing region, brimming in history. It is the PERFECT setting for a gourmet food and wine vacation. After settling into our luxury villa, we will gather for a short trip to a rustic konoba, or taverna, to partake in a hands-on cooking class and homemade dinner featuring some of the areas delectable dishes.
Day 2
The theme of the day is TRUFFLES! Today, we will venture through the countryside dotted with hilltop villages until we hit the area most known for truffles and partake in a truffle hunt led by the cutest truffle hunting dogs. After the hunt, we will warm up in front of the fireplace and enjoy a cooking lesson on how to best prepare these edible treasures as we indulge in a white and black truffle degustation. We will then make our way to the cutest craft distillery you have ever laid your eyes on and indulge in a tasting of rakija’s, locally made and potent fruit brandies. Day 2 concludes with a sunset at the most scenic village in Istria followed by a truffle themed dinner at a gourmet restaurant most known for serving them.
Day 3
One of the things that pairs the best with truffles is cheese and today, we will head to our favorite goat cheese farmers, whose farm dates back to the 14th century and whose goats graze on close to 200 types of plants and herbs, which produce some of the most astounding cheeses. We will visit the production area and see how they are made before sitting down for a meal on the farm. Afterwards, we will make our way to our new home for the next couple of days, a wine hotel ready to celebrate New Year’s Eve with a super cozy get together to ring in the new year in one of the most beautiful and relaxing settings in all of Croatia.
Day 4
We begin the day with a short ride to Pula, a seaside town that is over 3000 years old and is famed for its Arena; one of the world’s best preserved Roman Amphitheaters. Once in town, we will take part in a private tour of the arena and the antiquities followed by a food tour as we stroll the city streets. Afterwards, we will visit one of the top winemakers in Croatia, who is known as the Bad Boy” of Croatian wine producers for a private tour of his winery. The day concludes with a meal paired with some of the best wine in Istria.
Day 5
Today we travel back to Zagreb for the remainder of the tour, but stop in the port town of Rijeka for a visit the fish market followed by a cooking class of how to best prepare the seafood delights we just picked up at the market. Once we get back to Zagreb, we will check into our hotel and meet after to experience the Advent market, which has been voted the Number One Christmas Market in Europe the past three years at your leisure, where you can explore the city by night.
Day 6
Today we continue our culinary vacation as we take a stroll to the largest Farmer’s Market in Croatia named Dolac and pick up some goodies for the cooking class/food styling/food photography class to follow. In the evening, we will gather for a drive the homestead of the Salaj Family, who put together a Christmas Village with over 2.5 million lights, bringing joy to all those that visit.
Day 7
The tour culminates with our Gypsy Table dinner, which is a charity pop up dinner concept Chef Richard started as a means of bringing the best Chefs in Croatia to cook with visiting guest chefs and featuring the best culinary products in Croatia. As Chef Asha and Chef Richard must prepare for the pop up dinner, today is a more relaxed and carefree day. We have arranged for you to visit the nearby town of Samobor to enjoy the mouthwatering desserts and pastries. Afterwards, you will join us at the secret location for the Gypsy Table dinner and prepare for a night of amazing food, drink, and ambiance.
Day 8
Guests will gather for breakfast at their own leisure, before departing for the Zagreb Airport via private transfer to the airport.
Croatia is incredibly diverse, especially with regards to its culinary history, yet so many Americans know virtually nothing about the beauty and culture of this Mediterranean paradise. The food and wine culture are perhaps one of the most diverse in Europe. It is here, one can taste the richness of Central Europe, the subtlety of the Mediterranean and the exotic influences of the East. Think about Croatia as a gastronomic melting pot simmering for centuries. Visiting Croatia and dining alongside chefs and locals alike is like taking a trip through tastes and time.
